A Beach House In Oregon

Today you're invited to my (pretend) beach house on the Oregon coast!

I've been a bit homesick for home lately, and one of the things I love about Oregon is the rugged Pacific coastline.  So, naturally, that led me to designing a beach house to help ease the homesickness.  That's normal...right??  :)

Pack your bags and bring your significant other, kids and/or dogs because we're going to Oregon together!  I hope you enjoy your stay...

A welcoming entry with a lot of decking and natural foliage greets you as you appear with your bag full of swimsuits, flip flops and casual wear.  Don't forget to pack a fleece, too.   This is Oregon afterall!

Easy-going slipcovered furniture in fresh white, paired with woods and that gorgeous rug strike the right balance between beach casual and elegant.  The only thing I'd change is to replace the bonsai with a succulent.  :)

Since it's Oregon, rain and wind storms are the norm.  That makes a cozy fireplace a MUST to make it a welcome shelter from the weather, while still being able to enjoy the view!  (plus I am just loving those mirrors lately...preferably as a pair)

If the weather is good, we'll eat outside at a rustic table.
(please ignore the lake in the background and pretend that's the ocean ;))

It's Oregon.  The weather probably won't be good.  So, we need a great dining room inside.
I love the look of these chairs and envision many engaging dinner conversations as well as playful after dinner games around this table.

You won't find any serious art here.  I'd have something like this  (the Oregon version) hung on the wall above the dining room table...that is, the wall opposite the windows where we can enjoy the view!

How perfect are those lights for a quaint beach house?
The kitchen needs to be open to the dining area, so everyone can chip in with dinner prep, table setting, etc.  It's a team effort around here.

I'd want this house to be a place for quiet reflection, so I'd have a few quotes in rustic style scattered around the house...  This strikes me as a very good motto!

And - of course - a cozy little spot to watch the sunset over the Pacific...

Cocktails are served at 8pm sharp!

It's time to retire for the evening, but don't worry, you'll sleep well here.  :)
Open the window so that you can fall asleep to the sound of the crashing waves.

See you tomorrow!

I love a shingled house, close to the water or not. Our Pacific coast is battered by rain this morning............this summer day feels so far away!

I can close my eyes and picture you sitting on your deck in the morning with a cup of coffee, greeting the day and then tucking it in night. I found myself wondering what kind of dog you would have as a companion... Lab? Golden retriever?

Cheers,
John
