Today I bring you a bit of ethnic design that has been grabbing my attention lately. I know this isn't for everyone, and even for me it can go over the top. However...I do think a touch* of ethnic additions to a space can really spice it up and make it a more interesting, unique room...sometimes I like it best in a very traditional space. I guess it's similar to adding abstract art - that element of surprise.
*as in, determined by the homeowner/designer...kind of like "salt to taste" :)
Let's take a look at a few of my faves that I have come across lately. I'll follow up in a week or two with a second post with some other inspirations:
That's a pretty cool piece on the wall, don't you think?
Happy Wednesday!
I completely agree, a little ethnic beauty, mixed in with the other furnishings keeps a room looking very fresh and interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think a touch of it can add such interest and character to a room. Like with everything when its done right....it just works!
ReplyDeleteWonderful and interesting ideas. Would love to know some of the sources.
ReplyDeleteGina - there is a link at the bottom of each post (if they aren't noted picture by picture) to my pinterest board and then you can look at my board by the same name, which has sources for each picture. Hope that helps!

ReplyDeleteOh I am really loving that white ceiling with the design!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree - it can add a bit of grounding in any space!!
ReplyDeletegorgeous pics and ideas!! yes, I love a bit of ethnic design elements (as well as abstract art)...it's a testament to ones aesthetics to have a few pieces from one's travels incorporated into one's decor...
ReplyDeletebest,

I agree, a little touch can bring just the right bit of interest to a room when it's done with an artful hand. Happy Wednesday to you!
ReplyDeleteMy favourits are the last 3 pics ... the interiors are simple yet really chic even with a touch of ethnic. And I totally agree, a bit of ethnic addition can make an interior complete - it shouldn't be to many elements but just one or two can break too puristic or too clean interiors and they make them a bit more interesting and thrilling.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Wednesday, too!
I totally agree with all your visitors! It can be over the top sometimes, but a unique pillow or maybe a special mask can add something to your interior. I love the last picture the most, the colours and the lamp make it warm & inviting!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great Wednesday!! Oh, and if you're interested: I'm doing my first giveaway... :-)
Love, Inge x
I'd be happy in any of these abodes. Talk about beautiful carpets and textiles...and conversation pieces!
ReplyDeleteBest to you!
Interesting! It's the small doses that really make them work, especially when mixed with contemporary pieces. Love that room with the red rug and cool ceiling.
ReplyDeleteI call it "icing on the cake". It's what makes a room taste so good visually. Love your images!
ReplyDeleteHow they show that added layer of complexity and personal expression to a room.
Cheers,
John
Can I get a big ol' AMEN! I couldn't agree with you more here. The colors, that patterns, the often raw and rustic materials. So good. In the end, I think it all boils down to contrast for me.

I've always wanted to add a bit of African touches to my house but blending ethnic with modern is something I find very hard to do. Great inspiration Barbara, I've got one or two ideas after seeing these!
