Today I'm Loving...

...metal four poster beds!  One of the things we haven't worked on yet in our  new house is our master bedroom.  We are in the market for a new bed, and since we have existing dressers that are wood, I'm liking the idea of a contrasting material for the bed.  If you have the right room for it, I like the bold statement that a four poster bed makes and the metal can give it a refreshing twist on the traditional style.

Sadly, my husband dislikes four poster beds, so it probably won't be happening, but I'm still thinking he might change his mind.  :)  Regardless, I thought I'd share a few of my favorites:

dividing a room with gorgeous bookshelves! And look at the hardwood floor!

Not 100% sure that is metal, but you get the idea.  :)

elegant pale earthy tones... love it

A mix of wood and metal would also be nice...

Happy July, by the way.  :)
I've been told that Summer starts in Seattle on July 5 - I'm counting the days!

  1. About the only type of four poster I like are the metal ones. You've found so many wonderful examples Barbara. A metal bed frame might be just as nice without the upper part.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  2. Barbara-
Needless to say, I will be pinning away! Love your choices. I am also thinking about a metal bed. I just refinished my parent's bedroom suite, and it is so beautiful, but I gave the bed to my sister!
    Have a wonderful Sunday.

  3. I hope you can convince your husband to change his mind. All of these beds are wonderful. I especially like the one with the wood detail around the top of the frame.
Hope your summer arrives soon, Barbara!

  6. I'm with you Barbara...love a metal four poster bed. Especially that 4th one that swoops in at the top. My husband was also against the idea, so I have a beautiful bed I love, but maybe someday.....just love the look of those metal beauties!

Hope your weekend has been fun and relaxing!

  9. These are all beautiful, Barbara. I had a four poster metal bed (now I have a wood one without a tester) but one caution, it needs an upholstered headboard. All metal, even if you use big Euro pillows, are not comfortable to lean against.

  10. Hi Barbara, I love these images--and I am a four poster w/ canopy nut. One word of caution: sometimes (often) metal four poster squeak when you move/sit on them because the side rails are not as securely attached as wood rails. So make sure before you purchase. Thanks for all of your posts. Mary

  11. Four poster beds have been my favorite since I was at least 5~ i can't imagine not having them but I understand people's taste! You however….found such gorgeous images of them I don't see how anyone couldn't love these! They are incredible and I will be pinning away along with Teresa! Thanks so much for sharing this great post!

  12. These are beautiful and so inspiring! I love how airy and unimposing they are even though they are four posters. We are due for a new bed in the next year so maybe this is my new inspiration...

  13. Lol! My guy hates them too, he says he feels hemmed in by them! It's just as well because I don't think we would ever have a room big enough for a beauty like one of these! I just had to pin the first picture!

  14. How long does summer last? Two weeks like here in New England? :-) Gorgeous and romantic images! I wish our little New England scaled bedroom was bigger so we could consider one. Hmmm... Maybe we could knock down a wall or two...

    Cheers,

  19. we had one when we were first married, and like so many things in design, i got bored after a few years. i think i like them when they don't swallow up a space, and i LOVE the ones you have shown here!

smiles to you and let summer begin for you in 3 days!
