Window Boxes: Lovely Ideas!

There's something so romantic about a window box - don't you agree?  I have fond memories of geraniums spilling out over all of the window boxes in Bavaria during our time there, not to mention throughout Europe.

Um, I would never proclaim to be a gardener, so there are no tips here on how to plant them (sorry), BUT there are some fun and creative ideas in here for some unique planters as well as some great inspirations for what to plant.  Enjoy!

Window Box Basics

Window Box

I particularly like this look - no flowers - all of the drama comes from the various leaf shades.

An interior window box -- why not?

Perfect for north facing, shade loving spots.

Window boxes don't just have to be on windows.

How great is this with a topiary?

For a less traditional look, shelving and brackets is a great idea!

Succulent window box
Succulents - always in fashion for me.

Window box with potted lavender
These were new to me and I really love them with simple repeating lavendar in those rustic terracotta pots - wow!

Window box with potted boxwood
Another version - looks like the same window - a great tailored look which I love too.

Christmas Window Box
How neat is this?  Christmas or Hannukah - fill your window boxes with bottles and candlelight!

A little different and so quaint for a cottage or lake house!

  1. You picked some wonderful examples Barbara. I've always liked the idea of window boxes but the husband didn't so instead I have a million urns....lol.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  3. a bittersweet post since the intense heat managed to murder all my blooms in the front two flower boxes! every year, i say i will do better the next and sometimes i do. but not this year!

maybe i should stick with the bottle idea you show here!

    smiles to you.

  4. These are wonderful pictures! I got a lot of ideas for my own window box! Right now mine only has miniature boxwoods in it…it's been so hot that my trailing white petunias just wilted away! Thanks for sharing this!

  6. I LOVE window boxes! They add such texture and dimension to a home. Sadly, here in "America's Favorite Toaster Oven", (California) watering is a challenge.

  8. How pretty! I would never have thought of putting hydrangeas in a window box but they look lovely. Also love the clay pots with the lavender and boxwoods. And galvanized too!

  11. You already know how much I love window boxes. :) I'll have to add these creative ideas to my inspiration file for future plantings.

Especially love that interior one filled with pink tulips!
