Michele's Last Supper

Today I warmly welcome Michele from the beautiful blog Hello Lovely for a beautiful guest post about her ideal Last Supper.  Michele has pure talent when it comes to writing - somehow her posts manage to make me laugh, think and dream all at once!  She has applied these gifts to an incredible post for today.  Enjoy!

Pondering my last supper (thank you, Barbara!)
truly got me searching myself for what brings
maximum comfort and pleasure.

What fills up my senses like nothing else?

I discovered the answer is Hawaii.

son learning to surf

My beachy photos tell the story of my ideal
location and mood for the dinner.
Oahu's North Shore.
White sand.
Blue water.
Crashing waves.
The sweet scent of plumeria.

And these guys would be invited too.
I would def do something with my hair.

Shark's Cove

The menu would include three things:
the shrimp and sticky rice we live on
when we visit, Puglian anything prepared by
my close friend from Italy, and 4 surprise courses
from a new friend whose food is edible art.
Think quail with beets and emu prepared perfectly.

my husband learning

On the one hand, I want some of the comfort
foods I love and can't live without, but wouldn't
it also be exciting to be surprised and stretched
a little for a last meal?
I'll take em both.

In terms of a tablescape, I would call upon all my talented
friends in blogland who have been reading me and
understand my aesthetic and sensibilities.

Tropical happy drinks would be served
alongside champagne.

Everyone in this picture would be there,
as well as the rest of my family and close friends.

The dress code would be simple:
all white and barefoot.

A candle-lit, oceanside dinner on the sand
with our sons and nephews serenading us
with acoustic guitars and the help of Selah Sue.
All the pups in our family will be there too,
wearing white feathery wings designed

At some point, my dad would read scripture
while my mom plays a harp...
mom has never played the harp so
a few pre-dinner lessons will be in order.

my grownup baby

Dreaming of this last supper has me feeling
so relaxed and full of gratitude because
I realize how many blessings are
right here, right under my nose.

In the twilight of my life, whenever that may be,
I hope I will still be filled with childlike wonder.

I hope I will still sense God's beauty
all around me and pulsing through my veins.
I hope I will have peace in my heart and a knowing
that it is well with my soul.

I hope the legacy I leave will be honorable.

Thank you so much, Barbara, for this exercise.
Who is to say we can't make that dream
last supper happen now while we have
so much life left in us?

Here's to making it happen!

  1. Wow..this was simply amazing. I expected nothing less from the talented Michele. Oahu is the perfect place for a last supper and I loved her thoughts on family, life and gratitutde....right down to the sticky rice and shrimp. Michele's gift (one of the many that is) is the ability to make you feel so many things at once, from simple things like getting hungry at her descriptoin of simple food to feeling really touched and reawakened and feeling grateful and reflective about our blessings. WELL DONE!

    What a neat exercise
    for heart and soul--
    You definitely thought
    this through and brought
    your readers to the same
    conclusion that you did....
    That heaven is right here
on Earth, if we frame it
all the right way : )

    Barbara, thank you for
    featuring sweet Michele
    and her lovely thoughts!
