I visited El Mueble, the spanish design magazine, website recently and found some beautiful images that I thought you all might like to see. You'll definitely notice a theme here: very muted colors, white furniture and (almost always) beamed ceilings. Because I love neutrals, these rooms really speak to me:
Which one is your favorite and why?

I'm going to have to back the car into the garage on this one, Barbara. Several of the images, while absolutely beautiful, were a little too perfectly composed for me. As I go back through them, I think in some, it is their symmetry. A bit too easy to take in maybe... I was drawn to the images that felt a little out of balance, if you will.
I'll use the second image as an example. While the furniture is very symmetrical, there is an energy to the overall composition that draws my eye through the space in a very appealing way. (This is hard to put into words...)Starting with the modern sculptural wood piece in the foreground, my eye moves to the floor standing candle stick, then to the paintings and the fireplace. The very straight lines of the furniture on the right, bring me back to the piece of wood sculpture. The composition is spinning around the very subtle bouquet of floors in the center of the image. Beautifully designed, accessorized and photographed.
A common thread though the images were the large floor pillows and small ottomans used as seating. They add a nice air of casualness to a room. I liked that!
Cheers,
John
PS: Thanks for your wonderful comment on my most recent post! MUCH appreciated!
gorgeous post as always..I am such a fan of beamed ceilings as they add a little rustic nature to the otherwise perfectly composed rooms..the color palette is divine...what more could you ask for? a cup of coffee and a magazine and I could settle down for the evening in any one of these rooms..
fabulous post,
best,

Barbara, THANK YOU for the introduction...WOW these are AMAZING!!!!!! That first home grabbed me and it just kept going...so much beauty all in one place. Impressive!
Hard to choose - but I think the last 4 are my favourite. I love the white beamed ceiling of the living room and what beautiful views. I love the stone walls in the next pic, the bathroom is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen and I love the soothing palette in the last one. This post has changed my view on Spanish design! x Sharon
Love All of the photos and design ideas. Open beams are wonderful and always add so much dimension to the room. Being and artist high windows and a lot of light is always the best.'
I could just curl up on those big floor cushions!
Great blog. Thank you.

I really like a little Spanish influence in design. These are all awesome images but my favorite is the bath. I'm in love with the idea of throwing open the doors in the Master bath to a garden. Great post, Barbara. XO, Mona
Barbara,
Oh la la! Look at all those beams. The 2 bathrooms are breathtaking and that living rooms with all stone walls must look pretty spectacular in the evening with all candles lit.
You have a good design eye Ms. Barbara!

You just can't go wrong with beamed ceilings! My absolute favourite is the third image, the windows are spectacular!
That is odd they almost all have beamed ceilings. I really love the white beams and that awesome tray ceiling. These are beautiful!
