Traditional herringbone is always a classic that makes my heart melt.
A beautiful, richly colored rug warms up the whole room.
SUCH a creative outdoor surface!
A great geometric rug is a nice addition for some pattern while
still leaving choices for other fabrics.
A gorgeous design for immediate impact upon entry.
I just saw this installed in a restaurant in Munich and it looked sooo great!
Classic seagrass - one of my all time faves.
This amazing design is actually concrete!
The contrast of the dark floors against the runner is stunning!
I love the look of a concrete floor and the possibilites now are pretty impressive!
I love the look and feel of a pebbled walkway...pure European romance.
What's your favorite kind of flooring?
And what beautiful options for flooring did I miss in this post?

My favorite is Belgian blue stone but I can’t afford it so instead we have soapstone in our kitchen. The house has original antique heart pine wood floors we stained a dark walnut and love it! The stain actually makes the heat pine grain pop and it’s stunning.
Now this is a post woth keeping you covered all my absolute faves...from herringbone, to marbles to stone to even the fun geometrics...stunning!
yes, you would think flooring would be an easy one but it too is as difficult to choose a style as is lighting or any of the other gorgeous accents and decor on the market currently...but I am in love with herringbone flooring as well as the beautiful outdoor images of gardens with stunning "floors"...
best,

So many wonderful ideas. I am loving the outdoor images. Such creative ideas.
The art-deco inspired entryway floor is to die for! I'm in love. Personally, I love floors with contrasting wood patterns like that. It looks terribly elegant yet interesting.
The examples you have chosen, Barbara, are absolutely stunning. I love all of them, most especially that first outdoor path and the wood floor entryway with inset medallion. This post is a keeper. Have a wonderful week.

Floors ARE tough. They're one of the base building blocks of a room and so specific to the room, use, client, etc. And there are soooo many materials and options from which to choose these days!
I absolutely LOVE the outdoor walkway. The FRAGILE Stair is a hoot!
Sally and I have been going through a wide plank floor thing of late, specifying both new and reclaimed for several old house renovations we've been designing. I'd love to see reclaimed wide plank go down in a new house that we're working on. It would add "instant age" to it.
Beautiful post!
Cheers,
John
What a great line up! Adore the old herringbone images and the peacock pavers. I think this layer is often a "miss" for lots of spaces I see! Happy Turkey day to you! M.
Fabulous choices...love them all. Anything with an aged look makes my heart beat. I'm all over wide planked floors, aged stone and worn rugs. Beautiful post, Barbara. XO, Mona
I could stare at these all day! Herringbone floors are my kryptonite, especially when done in a dark battered timber! As for outdoors, I adore the European look of a pebbled walkway under a rose-covered pergola!
I love great flooring! That first outdoor space was insane! What great finds!
I could not agree more with ALL of your choices. I love that you included using pea gravel outside!
I think I'd have to go with hardwoods as my favorite -- boring I know. But I also love terra cotta tile too!
