Chalet Chic

As our time in Munich winds down, I am hoping to spend as much time in the Alps as we can, with days spent hiking amongst the wildflowers and swimming in the beautiful Alpen lakes.  Sounds idyllic, doesn't it??  I hope it will be - you never know with children along!  I'll keep you posted.  :)

Anyway, I was in that frame of mind when I looked through some German edition Elle Deco (as it's called here) magazines recently and came across several versions of beautiful Alpen homes.  My preferences definitely lean toward urban design, but I thought these were something I could definitely handle!  Here are a few shots that I thought were worth sharing:

If you're going to go rustic alpine, I think this is the way to do it.
The lighting, textured pillows and edgy table keep it fresh.

A modern, clean take.
The title of this article was "Chalet Goes Zen" - I agree!

I love this type of table in any setting and here is no exception.
Loving the nail head trim for some sophistication that also plays well in a rustic setting.  The porcelain on the table is all from Nymphemburg, explained below:

This piece, with similar pieces shown on the table above, is from a 260-year-old Munich manufacturer called Nymphenburg.  Most of the pieces are too traditional for my taste, but I really like these.

What kid wouldn't want to jump into those bunk beds?
I think I could even convince grown-ups to sleep in these!
I love those gray wool blankets and the ladder - truly Chalet Chic.

The sourcing guide.  If you want any sources, let me know and I can translate for you.  :)

We're off to the Alps for the day tomorrow so I'll be back on Monday!

love to stay at places like this when skiing and wouldn't mind this as a winter home...but I have a tendency to lean towards urban too... :)

Love it all! I especially adore that picture of the bunk beds..could it be any cozier? All that gorgeous wood and with paired with stone..its just a perfect combination. It must be so beautiful around the Alps this time..we were there about 8 years ago and I still have the picture etched in my mind of how fabulously beautiful it was...breathtaking at every turn! Enjoy....

*** BJD~ This is just about as close to 100% "us" as can be!!! Our 18 years living in Europe, and skiing just about EVERYthing, EVERYwhere, has led me/us to a love of ANYTHING even CLOSE to that FAB European Lodge look... That first pic was sooo sophisticated & terriffic for a "FINE" lodge!!! Oh, how I miss it all!!!

Before you leave your Munich life, please go to the Post Hotel's wonderful little "private" bar, if you never had a chance to visit it~~~ we always preferred to sitting outside, but in winter, that bar is sooooo cozy, warm & welcoming & OOOOOOZES CHARM!!!

Blessings,
