Design Detail: Shelving

A client project will usually include some type of need for shelving - whether it be for practical storage or beautiful display, but of course as a designer my goal is to provide both!  Here are a few gorgeous examples of where shelving can be put to great use without sacrificing an ounce of style:

How adorable for a girl's room...

I love to fill up a small pass-through space with something like this!

An added detail that introduces great depth.

I blogged about these before...I just love this floor to ceiling design with the great hardware.
I'm hoping a new construction or remodel client will want to do this very soon!

Probably my all time favorite bookshelf - for an office or living room.
Although built ins are great, the versatility that free standing shelving has is tempting for any client who wants flexibility in their designs.

I love that these shelves are only filled with BOOKS.

Great detailing along the top.

A fresh take on the back of the shelf: reclaimed wood provides great texture and age.

A beautiful option for a dining room!

I hope you enjoyed this post.

My Favorite Things: Limestone

Hi Everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend.

Today's post is about one of my favorite materials:  Limestone.  My love affair with it continues.  You may have noticed that theme when I have posted in the past about exteriors but today I bring you a few other examples, inside and out.  Enjoy!

What a stunning room divider!

Ah...courtyards!

Isn't it lovely??

Taking The Edge Off...

The weather here in Seattle has turned gorgeous and as anyone who lives in the Pacific NW knows, when the sun comes out you have to seize the moment!

We have been spending every possible minute outside in the sunshine, but when the sun goes down there is still definitely a springtime chill in the air.  That's where a roaring outdoor fire comes in!

Here are a few lovely options for enjoying this time of year if the temps aren't 100% cooperating.  :)  Enjoy...

I feel a little warmer already.  :)

Have a great weekend!

Holiday Open House Ideas

One of my favorite blogging buddies, Carolyn from The Buzz blog, asked me to participate in a series about my favorite tips to share for enjoying the upcoming holiday season.  What a treat!

I chose to talk about my ideas for a festive Holiday Open House.  Here are a few teasers of other fun holiday ideas, but head over there for the whole story!

This post may feel like deja veux to a few of you.  I posted this recently, but due to all of the chaos caused by Sandy and snow on the east coast, Carolyn and I had a little mix up on timing. So, please head over to her blog today for some fun holiday ideas from me!  :)

Favorite Things: Throws

Hi Everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Now that the cold, cozy months are truly upon us, I like to add a throw in my home wherever I can.  Following my obsession with lamps and pillows, throws are a close second.

Here are a few rooms where throws add a beautiful touch to the space...

I bought an antique textile in Bali that I have yet to use in my house, but it was inspired by this bedroom from several years ago.  It's still one of my faves!

Favorite Things: Topiaries

I love the look of a topiary - indoors and out.  Currently I have an olive topiary in the kitchen window and right after Thanksgiving some oversized topiaries with twinkly lights will be sitting on either side of the front door, but I could go on and on in several rooms in the house.  :)

Here are a few of my favorite examples!
